25 Jan The Future of Stewart Beach Park
Stewart Beach was formally dedicated in 1941 and has become iconic as Galveston’s premier family beach park. The current pavilion was built in 1984 with a life expectancy of approximately 30 years. Since it is at or beyond its life expectancy, the Park Board brought to Council plans developed over the past few years for improvements that outline a new path forward for the Pavilion and the Park.
At this Thursday’s Council meeting, we will decide on a Joint Committee composed of Council members, City Staff, Park Board members, and Park Board Staff to research all possibilities for future development with a mandate to report back to Council in three months.
However, public input on this project is vital. Stewart Beach is your Park, and we welcome your ideas, comments, and suggestions. Please share your vision for the Park with me, and rest assured they will be included in the decision process, so we can come up with a solution that is worthy of our city and makes us all proud.
