Shaping a Bright Future for Galveston: My Vision for Our Community
As I look to the future of our beloved island, I am filled with a profound sense of hope and determination. My continuing vision for Galveston is a future that ensures sustainability, safety, and growth while maintaining the unique charm that defines our coastal community. The foundation of our future success lies, first and foremost, in our continued commitment to our residents. My vision is, and always has been, to transform Galveston into a place people want to call home.
Diversifying Our Economy: By significantly diversifying our economy, as we have done recently with the Port by expanding cargo facilities, we can boost economic growth, make our economy more resilient, and create local jobs.
Upgrading Streets and Sidewalks: I will intensify our efforts to improve street repair management and increase curb and sidewalk programs to enhance beauty, mobility, and safety.
Enhancing Our Master Drainage Plan: My focus will be to continue to improve our Master Drainage Plan to address our unique challenges with flooding and water management.
Environmental Focus: I will champion a strategy that supports our current eco-tourism efforts and expands the environmental focus of our comprehensive plan and land development regulations.
Improving Island-Wide Lighting: In collaboration with CenterPoint Energy, I will assess and enhance lighting across the island to ensure that no corner of our community is left in the dark.
Improving City Services: Under Michelle Hay’s capable leadership, I will push to expand our Ombudsman program to improve customer service, streamline processes, and ensure that our residents’ concerns and needs are addressed promptly and effectively.
Hurricane Preparedness: I will help protect our residents from dangerous storms and weather events by continuously improving our emergency systems and collaborating with local and state services.
Pelican Island Development: By developing Pelican Island, the city can grow its economic landscape, increase its tax base, and create new opportunities.
Pelican Island Bridge: I will champion this critical infrastructure project, which will help bring significant economic benefits and enhance public safety.
Mental Health Officer Program: I will continue prioritizing our community’s safety and well-being by expanding this successful program.
